About David...

Details of my professional training, experience, and background are found below.
But that's only one part of me.
My qualifications as a therapist are also deeply rooted in my life, my values, my character, my personal experiences of suffering and growth, and finding my way through challenges in life.
I aim to be humble, live well, stay focused on things that really matter, and promote life to its fullest all around me. I'm involved in several community projects aimed at improving the health of neighborhoods, kids, and people on the margins of society. I do all of this because I believe we as humans are part of a global family, and that the welfare of others, no matter who they are, impacts each of us.
I'm not very much like the therapists or "shrinks" you've seen on TV.
Sometimes people are suprised when they discover that I don't have couch for them to lie on, I don't smoke a pipe, wear a bowtie or an ascott, or even say "tell me how that makes you feel" very often. We all have stereotypes about therapists, and mostly those are just funny. I'll probably surprise you if you're expecting Sigmund Freud, Frasier Crane, Dr. Phil, or any of the popular media portrayals of therapists.
Hopefully, instead you'll find me to be warm, caring, practical, and interested in working with you to find the best solutions for your life.

My Work |
I work only with individuals over the age of 18.
I see a wide range of people with various different challenges. Some of the more common issues I help people deal with are: Anxiety - Depression - Trauma - Relationship Difficulties - Self-Esteem - Stress - Workplace Difficulties - Existential Issues - Grief/Loss - Obsessive Thoughts - Chronic Physical Illness - Panic My work as a therapist is eclectic: meaning that I use a variety of techniques and theories to be helpful depending on the person and their problems. I'm also particularly sensitive to the spiritual dimensions of suffering and healing and find integrating individual's interests in this area to be particularly helpful in therapeutic work. I take great joy in writing both as a therapeutic endeavour and just for fun. You can find some of my work on psychology and everyday life at my blog: www.deepinwonder.com |
